Vital Signs Monitor

Based on mmWave technology, Sensor IT’s Vital Sign Monitor, par of Sensor IT’s Smart Healthcare portfolio, is a highly sensitive, non-invasive device designed to capture and analyse vital signs such as breathing rate, heartbeat, and sleep quality. The device uses radar technology, which operates in the 30 GHz to 300 GHz frequency range. This technology allows for precise measurement of minute chest movements and other physiological signals, even through clothing and bedding, making it ideal for continuous monitoring during sleep.

Unlike traditional contact-based monitoring systems, the mmWave radar enables remote sensing without the need for wearables or skin contact, thereby enhancing comfort and minimizing disruption, especially in clinical or home care settings. The device’s advanced signal processing algorithms further enhance accuracy by filtering out ambient noise and isolating vital sign data in real time. Its compact design and integration capabilities also make it suitable for embedding in smart home systems, hospital beds, or elderly care facilities, supporting applications in telemedicine, sleep studies, and long-term health monitoring.

With its ability to operate effectively in low-light or obstructed conditions, the Vital Sign Monitor represents a significant step forward in passive health tracking, offering a reliable and user-friendly solution for round-the-clock physiological monitoring.

Vital Signs Monitor Features

Sensor IT’s Vital Signs Monitor offers many advantages over traditional, and typically manual, forms of monitoring.

  • Breathing Rate Detection

The mmWave radar continuously scans the chest area, detecting the subtle expansion and contraction movements associated with breathing. It can distinguish between inhalation and exhalation, providing real-time respiratory rate data

  • Heartbeat Monitoring

The Vital Signs Monitor measures the micro-vibrations of the chest caused by heartbeats. By analyzing these vibrations, it accurately determines the heart rate, even during periods of movement or varying sleep stages.

  • Sleep Quality

The Vital Signs Monitor evaluates sleep quality by analyzing breathing patterns, heart rate variability, and body movements. It can distinguish between different sleep stages (e.g., light sleep, deep sleep, REM) based on the consistency and variability of these vital signs. It also tracks sleep interruptions, such as apnea episodes, and restless movements

  • Non Invasive and Contactless

The mmWave radar is contactless, meaning it doesn't require any physical contact with the body. This is especially beneficial for monitoring without disturbing the sleeper, unlike traditional methods that might involve wearable devices or electrodes

  • High Precision and Sensitivity

The mmWave technology provides high-resolution data, capable of detecting even the smallest changes in vital signs. This precision allows for early detection of irregularities in breathing or heartbeat that could indicate health issues

  • Integration with Smart Healthcare

The Vital Signs Monitor can be integrated with smart home systems, enabling it to work alongside other health-monitoring tools. Data can be sent to a connected app or healthcare provider for real-time monitoring and analysis

Vital Signs Monitor Applications

Home Health Monitoring
The device is ideal for individuals managing chronic conditions or simply looking to stay proactive about their health. By enabling continuous, contactless tracking of heart rate, breathing patterns, and sleep quality, it eliminates the discomfort of wearable sensors. This makes it especially valuable for users who need daily monitoring but want a seamless, low-maintenance experience in the comfort of their own home.

Sleep Studies
Sensor IT’s solution is well-suited for use in both clinical sleep labs and at-home assessments. Its ability to monitor subtle physiological changes throughout the night helps clinicians and researchers identify irregular sleep patterns, apneas, and other disorders without disturbing the subject. The high-resolution data supports more accurate diagnoses and can be integrated into existing health records for long-term analysis.

Elderly Care
For aging populations, the need for continuous health monitoring is critical—but so is preserving comfort and dignity. This device provides a non-intrusive way to keep track of vital signs and can issue real-time alerts if irregularities in breathing or heart rate are detected. Whether used in assisted living facilities or private homes, it enhances patient safety while reducing the need for constant manual checks by caregivers.

Hospital Patient Monitoring
The device can be seamlessly integrated into hospital infrastructure, allowing for unobtrusive patient monitoring in ICU or post-operative care. Its contactless nature reduces the risk of infection and improves patient compliance, particularly for those sensitive to physical sensors.

Smart Home and Wellness Platforms
With its compact form factor and real-time analytics, the monitor can also be integrated into smart home environments. It supports broader wellness initiatives by offering biometric insights that can be linked to voice assistants, home automation systems, or digital health platforms. Applications include assisted living and elderly monitoring.

These devices are wholly manufactured in-house by Sensor IT as we value creating sustainable and innovative solutions from the ground up. We intend to deploy them in the long run in public healthcare facilities.
