The Energy Catalyst programme was set up in 2013 to support UK-based businesses to develop highly innovative, market-focused energy technologies. The programme will enable them to commercialise sustainable energy solutions faster than they normally would. Energy sustainability is based on three pillars of the energy trilemma – low cost, low carbon and secure supply.
Sensor IT got selected to participate in the mission, together with other 16 participants, after an UK-wide competitive process run by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) took into account the value proposition the company could offer to the mission, which took place from the July 14th up until July 18th of 2019, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The mission involved a number of high-level presentations with government officials, such as the Ethiopian Minister for Water, Irrigation and Energy (MOWIE) and the Ethiopian Energy Authority (EEA), amongst others.
The mission was designed to be a preparation for the Innovate UK Energy Catalyst Round 7, assisting companies to establish commercial relationship in emerging economies in order to enable them to participate in the funding competition.
Sensor IT intends to build on the momentum created as the result of this mission and establish a local presence in Africa with the aim to get involved in the proliferation of IoT devices and technologies in the continent.
